History
The desert is one of the most ancient monasteries of the Solovetsky monastery, as it appeared apparently during the time of St. Philip . It is known for certain that already in the XVII century on this site there was a chapel in the name of St. Isaac of Dalmatia , which gave the name of the desert. In the 18th century, lakes around the desert, rich in fish, made it the center of monastic fishing .
At the beginning of the 19th century, a two-story cell building was built in Isaakovo, and also, in 1834, another large wooden house. Under Archimandrite Meletia, in the 1880s, under the leadership of the monk Feoktist, a large fish tank was set up there. At the very beginning of the 20th century, deserts received the status of a monastery . [four]
After the October Revolution, during the Solovetsky Special Purpose Camp in the desert, a logging department and a road service were located. In the attic of the cell building there were refusals to work. [5] After World War II, desert buildings were mainly used for housing. In the 1970s, the complex of buildings of the Isaac Skete was transferred to a recreation center to one of the Arkhangelsk enterprises.
Current status
Of all the buildings in the desert, we have survived to this day: a two-story cell building [6] , a boulder barn [6] , a barn for storing nets [6] . A wooden house built in 1834 burned down in 2007.
On September 17, 2006, a six-meter bow cross was installed in the desert. After the revival of the Solovetsky Monastery in Isakovo, former hayfields are gradually being developed. [four]
