Yellow saffron ( Latin Crócus flávus ) is a tuberous herbaceous perennial plant , a species of the genus Saffron ( Crocus ) of the Iris family , or Irisaceae .

It is found in Greece , the countries of the former Yugoslavia , Bulgaria , Romania . In forests, in meadows, at altitudes from sea level to 1200 m.
The corm is oblate-spherical, 1.2–2 cm in diameter. The membrane is membranous, divided into vertical fibers, not breaking up into horizontal rings.
Leaves are 4-8, usually 5, about 1-4 mm wide, 10-23 cm long, with a clear white stripe.
The flower is usually one, sometimes up to four, the perianth is dark yellow, the stigmas are yellow or light orange.
It blooms from February to April.
