He graduated from the Vienna Conservatory ( 1865 ), a student of Felix Otto Dessoff .
Since 1874, the bandmaster of the Vienna Court Opera ; conducted, in particular, the first performance in Vienna of Richard Wagner's opera “Tannhauser” in Vienna. Since 1880, conductor of the Vienna Society of Friends of Music. In 1884 - 1889 and 1898 - 1906 he worked in the United States as the chief conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra , during the interval from 1890 to 1895 he again directed the concerts of the Vienna Society of Friends of Music, in 1895 - 1896 he worked in Dresden .
Guericke's composing heritage includes Requiem, several operettas, various chamber ensembles, two piano sonatas.
