Shahid Beheshti University ( Pers. دانشگاه شهید بهشتی [Dāneshgāh-e Shahid Beheshti]) is a state higher educational institution in Iran , a training and research center in the field of engineering and physical sciences . One of the most prestigious Iranian technical educational institutions. Located in the city of Tehran .

Content
General information
It was founded in 1959 by Ali Sheikhulislami professor at Tehran University by decree of the Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi as Iranian National University in the image of American private universities [1]
In the first year of the university’s existence, 174 students were selected at the two faculties — architectural, urban planning, and financial and economic — selected according to the results of the all-Iranian competition.
In 1983, the Decree of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution The Iranian National University was renamed Shahid Beheshti University and named after Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini-Beheshti , a spiritual and political figure and revolutionary who was killed on June 28, 1981 in a terrorist attack.
In 1985, by order of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in connection with the formation of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, they were separated from the university, becoming an independent Medical University. Shahida Beheshti , Medical Center, Faculty of Medicine and Orthopedic Orthopedics.
In 2013, Hassan Abbaspur University of Technology was joined to the University .
The university currently has two campuses.

Currently, the University implements 199 undergraduate programs, 632 master's programs and 257 PhD programs, in which 17.5 thousand people study, including more than 8.6 thousand people under bachelor's programs, 7.3 thousand undergraduate programs, graduate school (PhD) - more than 1.5 thousand. The structure of faculties as a whole corresponds to the main areas of educational activity of the University.
Research Activities
The university has 6 research institutes: the Institute of Environmental Sciences, the Institute for Family Research, the Institute for Plants and Medicines, the Institute for Brain and Cognitive Sciences, the Institute for Laser and Plasma Research (fiber optics, magneto-optics, non-destructive testing, polymers and organic photonics, laser spectroscopy ) Quran Research Institute. There are also 9 research centers at the university.
