After several years spent in Italy , Boulogne settled in Paris. He made a great contribution to the organization of the Academy of Painting, where he worked as a teacher until the end of his life.
Boulogne had a remarkable copyist talent. There are many more or less reliable jokes on this subject. Louis Bullon wrote “Saint Simeon”, “The Miracle of Saint Paul at Ephesus” and “The Beheading of the Saint” for the Notre Dame Cathedral . He himself engraved the last two frescoes, as well as the “Abduction of Helen” in Rome in 1637.
He had two sons, known as Bon Elder and Louis the Younger , and two daughters, Genevieve and Madeleine, all four were artists. Genevieve was married to the sculptor Jean-Jacques Claireon (circa 1640-1714).
