Creation History
The song is written in the form of a love ballad, with keyboards and acoustic bass as solo instruments. Music journalist and critic Toby Creswell included Into My Arms in his book 1001 songs: The Greatest Songs of All Time, and Artists, Stories and Secret Secrets , where he attributed the melancholy lyrics to the breakup of Cave and Vivienne Carneiro's long relationship and his subsequent short-term relationship with PJ Harvey . In Cave 's lecture, β The Secret Life of the Love Song β at the Academy of Fine Arts (Vienna), he lists this song as one of which he is most proud of.
Cave performed this song at the funeral of his friend Michael Hutchence, but asked to turn off the cameras recording the ceremony while he performed.

The video for the song was recorded by British director Jonathan Glaser. In an interview with The Work of Director Jonathan Glazer DVD , Nick Cave praised the video as well-produced, but said the video's depressiveness rejected the melancholy optimism that Cave intended to put into the song.
