Street dances at "URBANOS dance contest 2012"

Street dance is a dance style that has developed outside the dance studio , in any accessible open space, such as on the streets, dance parties, in parks, school yards and nightclubs. This term is used to describe local dances in the urban sense. These dances are improvisation and social in nature, encouraging interaction between the audience and the performing dancers. Such dances are part of the local culture of the geographical area where they were created. An example of street dancing is the break dance , which was born in New York.

History

The traditional jazz dance, which has existed since the end of the 19th century, is perhaps one of the oldest street dances of urban America. It is believed that street dance is an urban folk dance. Returning to history and based on the concepts of that time, folklore dance is a more obsolete analogy to street dance. Street dance and folklore differ only in names. It is believed that the term "street dancing" as a compound noun existed from the very beginning of the 20th century, as a result of African-American vernacular, dance becomes the most popular in the Western world [1] .

Hip-hop dance styles such as break dance and funky styles ( papping and locking ) are the most popular street styles in African American culture. These forms of hip hop dance are practiced on the streets the most. These street dances were so widespread that various choreographic numbers were created for music videos. Breakdance helped realize team dance culture, whereby dance teams began to learn different styles of street dance for serious competitions. These street teams usually performed in open battles, which contributed to the further development of hip-hop dance culture [2] [3] [4] .
