Augustinian monk, author of a dictionary of Latin, Italian and other languages ( Reggio , 1502 ). With additions by Jean Passer , La Cerda, Laurent Chifflet, Jacopo Facciolati, this multilingual dictionary has long been considered the best of its kind. In the Basel edition ( 1590 ) there were 11 languages, including Hungarian and Polish. On behalf of Calepino comes the French common name calepin - a collection of extracts and notes. The meaning attached to his work is evidenced by the French proverb: “consulter son calepin”.
