Early life

Irwin was born in Santa Monica, California, in the family of teacher Elizabeth Mills and aerospace engineer Horace G. Irwin [8] . Theater

Although Irwin is known as a theater clown, he has also been involved in several dramatic performances. Irwin appeared at the Lincoln Center with Steve Martin and Robin Williams in the off-Broadway production of " Waiting for Godot " in 1988, where he played the role of Lucky [10] . The whole role of Lucky consists of a monologue of 500 words, which is especially ironic in the case of Irwin, since being in the form of a clown, he was silent.

He became the director of the play Flea in Her Ear in 1998 at the Rundebout Theater Company. He appeared in 2002 with Sally Field in the second part of the play “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?” [11] . In 2005, he played the role of George, along with Kathleen Turner, in the revived production of Edward Albee 's play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? " [12] . Irwin played the role of Vladimir (Didi) in 2009 in the revived Broadway production of "Waiting for Godot" [13] , as well as Mr. McAfee in the revived production of "Bye, Birdie" on Broadway. In 2011, he appeared in " King Lear " at the State Theater [14] .
