The early years

Christopher Scarver was born July 6, 1969 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin . Christopher was the second child in a family of five children, attended James Madison High School, which he dropped out in 11th grade. Having left school, for some time Christopher interrupted by casual earnings. To get a qualified specialty, Scarver in 1989, through the organization Conservation Corps job program, which trained qualified specialists, entered a one-year educational institution with a carpenter's specialty with the possibility of subsequent employment. After the change of leadership in the organization, Christopher lost his place and was expelled. Having become depressed , Scarver began to lead a self-destructive lifestyle, he developed alcohol and drug addiction. All this led to the fact that in the spring of 1990, Scarver was expelled from his home by his own mother. Learning about the pregnancy of his girlfriend and left without a livelihood, Christopher Scarver decided to commit crimes [3] .

First kill and arrest

On June 1, 1990, Christopher Scarver joined the office of the Conservation Corps job program. He tried to rob manager John Fyen, whom he considered the culprit of his failures. After receiving $ 15 from Fane, Scarver shot the worker Steve Loman and demanded a larger amount from Fayen. After receiving a check for several thousand dollars, the criminal disappeared. After 2 hours, Christopher Scarver was arrested at the doorstep of his girlfriend's house. During his search, a check, money, a credit card and a murder weapon were found. After the arrest, Scarver stated that he was the next victim of racism [4] .

Christopher was charged with the murder of Steve Loman and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1992 with the right to apply for parole in 2042 , after which he was sent to serve his sentence in the Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin [5] .

The Assassination of Jeffrey Damer

On November 28, 1994, Christopher Scarver attacked prisoners Jeffrey Damer and Jesse Anderson, inflicting severe injuries on them. All three were assigned to clean the toilets and showers next to the gym in the morning of that day. The prisoners were left unattended for 20 minutes, during which a conflict occurred between Scarver and his partners, ending in the beating of Damer and Anderson. At 8.10 in the morning, Damer was found unconscious and died an hour later from a head injury [6] . Anderson died a few days later. Scarver did not want to explain the motive of his act, referring to the voices in his head [7] , and began to show signs of mental disorder [8] [9] . It was suggested that the main motive for the Scarver killings was racial hatred , as African-Americans predominated among Damer's victims, and Anderson accused the murder of his wife, for whom he was serving time, two blacks [10] . New charges were brought against Christopher Scarver, and in May 1995 he was sentenced to two more life sentences for the murders of Damer and Anderson [11] .

In conclusion

In 1995, Christopher Scarver was transferred to the Colorado State Prison, where he spent 5 years and underwent a lengthy rehabilitation course for mental disorders , after which he was transferred to the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility Prison, where he also received treatment. Scarver was given erroneous treatment, as a result of which he twice tried to commit suicide . In 2005, his lawyers sued the prison authorities, citing illegal treatment methods that undermined the prisoner's physical and mental health. But in 2006, the lawsuit was rejected for lack of evidence [12] .

In 2015, Christopher Scarver received a second wave of fame by giving an interview to the New York Post , in which he described in detail how events unfolded on the early morning of November 28, 1994. As a true motive for the murder, Scarver indicated a personal hostility towards Jeffrey Damer because of his behavior in prison, his fun and humor. In an interview, Scarver clarified that the murder weapon was a metal rod [13] , and not a mop handle, as previously reported [14] .
