Biography
One of the founders of the "new cinema" of Brazil. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro . Since 1958 - assistant director of the Paulo Cesar Saraseni , later - producer. In 1959 he made his debut as a director with two short films “The Poet of the Castle” [1] and “The Teacher from Apipukos”. He delivered a number of documentaries: “Garrincha, the joy of the people” [2] , “Brasilia, the contradictions of the new city” [3] , “Improvising and achieving the goal” [4] , “Aleijadinho” [5] . In 1969 he was arrested during the military dictatorship. Screenwriter and producer of most of his films.
Died of lung cancer.
