Biography

Born in the family of a free landowner and captain of the Zvolensky castle - Abraham from Roar and his wife Anna, nee Churgayova. Educated in Zvolen , Banska Stjavnitsa , Banska Bystrica , Bardejov and Mosovtsy .

In Prague, he became a master of liberal arts ; in 1582 he studied in Leipzig . In 1595, he was ordained priest in Wittenberg [1] .

He worked as a teacher in Vienna , rector of the Evangelical school in Zvolen, a city notary in Kremnitsa , and taught in Slovak schools.

He served as a Lutheran pastor in Zvolen (1595-1607), then in the Bojnitsa (1607-1621) [1] .

In 1610, he became one of the first three Slovak superinterdents [1] (he was elected superintendent of the Tekovskaya, Nitryanskaya and Bratislava zhups at the Zilina Synod). He died in the town of Bojnice, where he selflessly defended the interests of the Reformation and Slovak nationalism at a time when it was just beginning to emerge.

Creativity

His literary work was completely connected with the gospel church. He became famous abroad as the author of historical and philosophical works written in Latin at the beginning of the 17th century , in which he signed mainly as the Grochocius. He also wrote funeral sermons (for example, for the Palatine of Juraj (György) VII Turzo ), and was engaged in translations.
