Hararich ( German: Chararich ; died around 509) - one of the kings of Salic Franks at the end of the 5th century.
Biography
Hararich is a cousin of Clovis I. Both of them were one of the many Frankish kings who, after the fall of the Roman Empire, acquired their own possessions in Gaul . Although accurate information is not available in historical sources , Hararich allegedly ruled in Arras or Boulogne .
During the struggle of Clovis I against the ruler of the Soisson region Siagria (486–487), Hararich, unlike Ragnahar , refused to help Clovis and maintained neutrality . Subsequently, Clovis with the help of a ruse captured Hararich and ordered him and his son to be cut off. Franks' long hair was an attribute of power: this act deprived Hararich of royal dignity. Hararich became a priest, his son was ordained a deacon, so they were both Christians at that moment. Later, the father and son planned to regrow their hair and take revenge on Clovis, but he ordered them to be killed and appropriated their possessions. The chronology of events is not confirmed by sources: they are attributed to the period shortly after the victory over Siagrius and until the end of the reign of Clovis I.
