Legion is an American superhero television series created by Noah Hawley for the FX channel based on the biography of the Marvel Comics character of the same name, David Heller (Legion). The show was co-produced by Marvel Television and FX Productions. The series premiered on February 8, 2017 [1] . March 15, 2017 the series was extended for the second season [2] . On June 1, 2018, the television series was extended for the third season [3] , which was the last [4] .

Content
Story
David Heller , who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia , struggled with his mental illness from adolescence, spent many years in psychiatric hospitals [5] . Exhausted by the splitting of his personality (each person controls one of the sides of his strength), he tries to find a way to return to sanity. David has already decided to give up and gives up, but everything changes when he meets the girl of his dreams [6] .

Production
Development
In October 2015, FX ordered a pilot episode of The Legion, Noah Hawley , who was also appointed executive producer, was the screenwriter and director. [5] In early January 2016, it was announced that Rachel Keller will play a leading female role [7] . Dan Stevens , Gene Smart and Aubrey Plaza got roles in the project in February [8] , and later Jeremy Harris [9] and Amber Midfander also joined the main cast [10] . Katie Aselton got a role in the pilot in March [11] . FX President John Landgraf during a January 2016 TV Critics Association tour confirmed that ten episodes are planned for the first season, and that the series will not be related to the X-Men cinematic universe [12] and tells of events taking place in a parallel universe [ 13] . On May 31, 2016, FX ordered the filming of the first season of the series, consisting of eight episodes [14] . Hawley told HitFix that there would be no X-Men in the series. [15] However, Brian Singer said that the series will be part of the X-Men universe [16] .
According to John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks, the series will close after the release of the third season.
Filming
Filming of the pilot episode began in Vancouver in March 2016 [17] . The main shooting period took place in the summer-autumn of 2016.

On the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator site, the first season received 90% freshness with an average rating of 8.37 / 10 based on 69 reviews. The critical consensus of the site is: “The bold, smart and visually appealing Legion is a masterfully surreal and brilliantly bold departure from the traditional superhero image.” The average rating of individual episodes is 89% [37] . Metacritic gave the first season 82 points out of a hundred based on 40 reviews showing "universal recognition" [38] .

The critical consensus of the site is: “The Legion is returning with a smart and strange second season, which is characterized by a more straightforward narrative, which did not damage its unique sensitivity” [39] . Metacritic gave the second season 85 points out of a hundred based on 10 reviews showing "universal recognition" [40] .
