Development

In October 2015, FX ordered a pilot episode of The Legion, Noah Hawley , who was also appointed executive producer, was the screenwriter and director. [5] In early January 2016, it was announced that Rachel Keller will play a leading female role [7] . Dan Stevens , Gene Smart and Aubrey Plaza got roles in the project in February [8] , and later Jeremy Harris [9] and Amber Midfander also joined the main cast [10] . Katie Aselton got a role in the pilot in March [11] . FX President John Landgraf during a January 2016 TV Critics Association tour confirmed that ten episodes are planned for the first season, and that the series will not be related to the X-Men cinematic universe [12] and tells of events taking place in a parallel universe [ 13] . On May 31, 2016, FX ordered the filming of the first season of the series, consisting of eight episodes [14] . Hawley told HitFix that there would be no X-Men in the series. [15] However, Brian Singer said that the series will be part of the X-Men universe [16] .

According to John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks, the series will close after the release of the third season.

Filming

Filming of the pilot episode began in Vancouver in March 2016 [17] . The main shooting period took place in the summer-autumn of 2016.
