Women's European Football Championship 2017

2017 European Women's Football Championship is the 12th draw of the European Championship, which took place in the Netherlands from July 16 to August 6, 2017. For the first time in the final part of the championship 16 teams took part [2] . For the first time in its history, the European team became the Netherlands national team , who defeated Denmark in the final [3] .

Venue Choices

Applications for the championship filed Austria , France , Israel , the Netherlands , Poland , Scotland and Switzerland [4] . December 4, 2014 the host country of the tournament was announced the Netherlands , which for the first time will host the European Championship [5] .

Qualifying Tournament

46 teams took part in the qualifying tournament, 15 of which reached the final tournament [6] .

The qualifying tournament was held in three stages [7] :

  • Preliminary round : eight weakest rated teams are divided into two groups of four teams, matches in groups go in one round, group winners go to the next stage
  • Qualification round : forty teams are divided into eight groups of five teams, matches in groups are held in two circles, group winners and six best teams from among the runners-up go to the final tournament of the European Championship
  • Playoff round : the two worst teams from the second place in the groups play two matches among themselves, the winner of the pair reaches the final tournament of the European Championship

Draw

The draw for the final tournament took place on November 8, 2016 at the Luxor Theater in Rotterdam [8] . The teams are divided into four baskets in accordance with the rating (the Netherlands rank in the 1st basket as the organizer). Each group gets one team from each basket [9] .

Lineups

Each team's application includes 23 players, three of whom are goalkeepers. Substitutions are permitted before the first match of the team in the tournament. Applications must be submitted no later than ten days before the opening match of the championship [7] .

Group Tour

In case of equality of points between the teams, their position is determined by the following criteria [13] :

  1. Points scored in matches between these teams
  2. The difference between goals and goals in matches between these teams
  3. Goals scored in matches between these teams
  4. Goal difference in all matches
  5. Goals scored in all matches
  6. A series of penalties (if two teams playing in the last round scored an equal number of points; it does not apply if three or more teams have an equal number of points, as well as if the teams do not qualify for the playoffs)
  7. Penalty points (red card - 3 points, yellow card - 1 point, when one player receives two yellow cards in one match, 3 points are awarded)
  8. UEFA ranking used for the draw of the final tournament

Playoffs

In the event of a tie during regular time, extra time is assigned (two halves of 15 minutes). If the winner is not revealed in extra time, then shoot-out penalties break out [7] .
