It was first released in May 1962 on side B of the single “Behave Yourself” released on Volt Records label ( Stax Records label ) (catalog number Volt 102), and then was quickly reissued as a single itself (as side A of the single with catalog number Stax 127 ) Also included in the album Green Onions ^[1] .

In the United States, the single with her was certified gold by sales ^[3] .

In the USA, the song climbed to 3rd place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and 1st place on the rhythm and blues chart of the same Billboard magazine.

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed the song “Green Onions” performed by Booker T. & the MG's at number 181 of its list of “ 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ” ^[4] . In the 2011 list, the song is at 183th place ^[5] .

The British music magazine New Musical Express also included it in its (published in 2014) list of “ 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ”, at 169th place ^[6] ^[7] .

In addition, the song “Green Onions” performed by Booker T. & the MG's is on the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ^[8] .

In 1999, Booker T. & the MG's single with this song (1962, Stax Records ) was admitted to the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame ^[9] .

Also in 1999, the song was included in the Grammy Award Hall of Fame ^[10] , and in 2012, it was included in the National Register of Audio Records of the Library of Congress ^[11] , which includes records that must be kept for future generations and be in special storage.
