In the east it is limited by the islands of the Absheron archipelago ( Yal , Kichik-Tava , Boyuk-Tava , Chilov , Garabattag ), in the west by the Absheron peninsula .
The water in the Absheron Gulf is more saline than in the Caspian on average, since not a single river flows into it. Used for shipping. The port of Dubendi is located on the shore of the bay, which, in connection with the construction of the dam in the Absheron Strait, has actually lost its significance.
After the construction of the dam in 1944, the bay was divided into two parts: North Absheron Bay and South Absheron Bay [1] . The area of the Absheron Bay is 24 km². The average depth is 3.4 m, the maximum is about 11-12 meters, in summer the average water temperature is 24-28 ° C, in winter 3-5 ° C [2] . Coastline freezing is rare [3] (2012).
