History

For the first time, the title of Baron Foley was created on January 1, 1712 for Thomas Foley (1673-1733), who previously represented Stafford (1694-1712) and Droitwich (1698-1699) in the House of Commons. He was the grandson of the famous breeder Thomas Foley (1617–1677), the nephew of politicians Paul Foley (1644–1699), the speaker of the House of Commons (1695–1698), and Philip Foley (1648–1716). In 1766, after the death of his eldest son, Thomas Foley, 2nd Baron Foley (1703-1766), the baronial title was interrupted.

The Baron title was recreated on May 20, 1776 for Thomas Foley (1716-1777), cousin and heir of Thomas Foley, 2nd Baron Foley. Thomas Foley received the title of Baron Foley from Kidderminster in Worcestershire . He was a member of parliament from Droitwich (1741-1747, 1754-1768) and Herefordshire (1768-1776). His successor was his son and namesake, Thomas Foley, 2nd Baron Foley (1742-1793). He also represented Herefordshire (1767–1774) and Droitwich (1774–1777) in the House of Commons, and also served as general postmaster . He was succeeded by his son, Thomas Foley, 3rd Baron Foley (1780-1833). He held the positions of captain of the honorable corps of gentlemen in the Whig administration of Lord Gray (1830–1833) and Lord Lieutenant Worcestershire (1831–1833).

His son, Thomas Henry Foley, 4th Baron Foley (1808-1869) became his successor. He was also a politician from the Whig Party, sat in the House of Commons from Worcestershire (1830–1832) and West Worcestershire (1832–1833), served as captain of the Honorable Corps of Gentlemen (1833–1834, 1835–1841, 1846–1852, 1852–1858 , 1859-1866, 1868-1869). In 1918, after the death of his second son, Fitzalan Charles John Foley, 6th Baron Foley (1852-1918), this branch of the family was interrupted. The latter was succeeded by his cousin, Gerard Henry Foley, 7th Baron Foley (1898-1927). He was the grandson of General Hon. Sir St. George Gerard Foley, the third son of the 3rd Baron Foley. As of 2012, the title holder was the grandson of the 7th baron, Thomas Henry Foley, 9th baron Foley (born 1961 ). He became the successor to his father, composer and pianist Adrian Gerard Foley, 8th Baron Foley (1923-2012), who held the title for 83 years, in 2012 .

The family residence of the Barons of Foley is Wheatley Court in Worcestershire until 1837 , when it was sold to William Ward, 1st Earl of Dudley (1817–1885).
