History
The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1702 at the expense of parishioners.
In 1758, also at the expense of the parishioners, the Paraskevi Friday chapel and the bell tower were built . Thus, the architectural complex included three buildings: the cold (summer) church of Mikhail the Archangel, the warm (winter) Paraskeva Fridays and the bell tower .
Before the revolution, the church kept a local relic - the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God [2] , which is of historical and artistic value. However, in Soviet times, she irrevocably disappeared, and her whereabouts are still unknown.
In Soviet times, the church was closed ( 1927 ), the winter temple and graceful bell tower were lost (1930s), and the state archive (one of the collections of the National Library of Chuvashia ) was located in the surviving building for many years.
In 1993, the transfer of the temple of the Cheboksary-Chuvash diocese took place.
Architecture
The rare transitional type of the two pillar temple is the only specimen of this type preserved in Cheboksary.
The church is made in the architectural style of "Russian Baroque" (like the " fours ", zakomary , elegant design of window openings).
Current status
In 1996, after complex restoration work and raising the crosses to the domes, full-fledged services began to take place.
The opening of the renovated church was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Cheboksary-Chuvash diocese and the first visit of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II . At present, the temple belongs to the Cheboksary Diocesan School [3] , and now future clergymen practice and conduct divine services in it.
Relics
A copy of the icon “ Add to the Mind ” is kept in the temple , which is customarily addressed with prayers for help with studies, scientific works and any projects, as well as for admonishment in solving complex life problems and healing the mentally retarded.
