Story

Book healer Mortimer “Mo” Folhart and his 12-year-old daughter Maggie love books. But besides this common passion, they also have an amazing gift - to revive the heroes from the pages of books they read aloud. But not everything is so simple, because when a hero from a book comes to life, a real person should take his place on the book pages. Once Mortimer reads from the book "Inkheart" the robber Kaprikorn, his accomplice Bastu and the fire swallower Sazheruk. But instead of them, Meggy's mother, Teresa (Reza), gets into the book. A few years later, Mortimer and Maggie meet with the deducted characters. Adventure begins ...

Characters

  • Basta
  • Reza (Teresa)
  • Elinor
  • Capricorn (in some versions of Russian dubbing, there is a literal translation of "Capricorn")

Differences

The film is very different from the book:

  • In the film, Mo meets Sazheruk in a town (where he was looking for a book). In the book, Sazheruk came to his house.
  • In the book, the novel "Inkheart" already belonged to Mortimer, which is why Capricorn was looking for him. In the movie, Mo has been looking for her in all bookstores for many years.
  • In the film, Mortimer and Maggie hear books talking to them.
  • There is no performance in the film that Sazheruk arranges for Maggie.
  • In the film, Sazheruk can create fire himself, and in the book he only controls it.
  • The film shows the monsters that Darius unsuccessfully read: Minotaur , Flying Monkeys , Unicorn , Ticking Crocodile. This is not in the book.
  • In the film, Moe, along with her daughter, Eleanor, Farid, and Sazeruk, escape from the hurricane from The Wizard of Oz .
  • In the film, Maggie discovers her abilities by subtracting Toto. In the book, she discovers this, only after being captured a second time, and reads the fairy Tinker Bell and the Steadfast Tin Soldier .
  • In the film, Sazeruk informs Mo that his wife is captured by Capricorn. In the book he is silent about this.
  • In the book, Maggie manages to read the continuation of the book written by Fenolio to the end, while in the film she has to finish the ending herself on the hand.
  • In the book, the people of Capricorn took young boys from their families so that they would be trained and included in the “army” of Capricorn. In the film, judging by the words from the book on their faces, all the people were subtracted by Darius.

Interesting Facts

  • Capricorn demonstrates his copy of the book with the words "My charm." Actor Andy Serkis, who played Capricorn, previously animated Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
  • The horned marten of Sazheruk (Paul Bettany) is Gwynn, the actor’s grandmother had such a name.
  • Jennifer Connelly, who played Sazheruk's wife Roxanne, is actually married to actor Paul Bettany, who played Sazheruk.
