Elagin, Alexander Sidorovich

Alexander Sidorovich Elagin ( October 23, 1930 ( 1930 ) , Nalchik , KBASSR , USSR - September 17, 1994 , Odessa , Ukraine ) - Soviet military leader, colonel general, commander of the troops of the Odessa military district. Member of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR of the 10th convocation. Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in 1986 - 1990. Member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 11th convocation.

Biography

Descended from the family of Russian princes Elagins. My father worked as a groom in the city of Nalchik .

In 1947 - 1948 - student of the shoe maker of the Nalchik shoe factory.

Since 1948 he served in the Soviet army.

Since 1951 - in various command and staff positions in the Transcaucasian, Baltic, Far Eastern and Kiev military districts.

Member of the CPSU since 1957 .

He graduated from the Frunze Military Academy and the General Staff Military Academy .

From July 1974 he served as chief of staff - first deputy commander, and from 1976 to 1979 - commander of the 1st Guards Combined Arms Army of the Kiev Military District .

In August 1979 - April 1982 - Chief of Staff - 1st Deputy Commander of the Red Banner Kiev Military District.

In April 1982 - December 1986 - the commander of the Red Banner Odessa Military District .

He was part of the editorial board of a monograph on the Red Banner Odessa Military District [1] .

He died in an accident. He was buried in Odessa , at the 2nd Christian cemetery .
