Biography
Born in 1943 in Latvia. He emigrated to Australia with his family in 1948 from a camp for displaced persons in Germany. [2] He graduated from a technical college in Australia and joined the police.
In 1962, he became the first Australian judo champion.
He performed at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . He fought in the open weight category. In his category, 9 athletes fought. Competitions were conducted in a circular system in three groups. Three group winners reached the semifinals; the fourth was determined in a round robin tournament of the wrestlers who took second place in the groups.
Boronovskis defeated his rivals in the group and reached the semifinals. In the semi-final in 12 seconds, he lost to Anton Gesinka with a cut under his supporting leg, and remained with a bronze medal, the only Australian Olympic judo award until 2000.
In 1965 he became vice-champion of Oceania; played at the world championship, but to no avail.
