The Armed Forces of the Donetsk People's Republic - the military structure of the executive state power of the unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic , which is subordinate to the Government of the Republic and managed by the Ministry of Defense.

The armed forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic are designed to ensure military security and armed defense of the Donetsk People’s Republic. [1] .

Content

History

On November 12, 2014, the 1st DPR army corps was created [2] .

Tasks

In order to protect the interests of the Donetsk People’s Republic and its citizens, maintain international peace and security, the formation of the Armed Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic can be quickly used outside the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic in accordance with generally recognized principles and norms of international law, international treaties of the Donetsk People’s Republic and this Law for solving the following tasks:

  • repulsing an armed attack on the formations of the Armed Forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic, other troops or bodies deployed outside the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic;
  • repelling or preventing an armed attack on another state that has requested the Donetsk People's Republic;
  • protection of citizens of the Donetsk People’s Republic outside the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic from an armed attack on them.

Structure of the Armed Forces of the DPR

The Armed Forces of the DPR consist of:

  • Central bodies of military command of the Armed Forces;
  • Types of troops;
  • Military branches;
  • Special forces;
  • Arms Services of the Armed Forces;
  • Logistics of the Armed Forces;
  • Military educational institutions, military commissariats and organizations of the Armed Forces.

The central bodies of the military command of the Armed Forces are the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The General Staff is organizationally part of the Ministry of Defense.

Heavy equipment and weapons

According to the statement of the DNR representatives, 28 tanks, 63 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, 145 vehicles, 16 anti-aircraft guns ZSU-23-4 , 13 artillery systems and mortars were captured in battles for Debaltseve [5] . On March 3, 2015, the deputy commander of the DPR Ministry of Defense corps, Eduard Basurin, reported that the militia was able to restore 100 pieces of equipment recaptured from the Ukrainian troops [6] . The Ukrainian authorities, as well as numerous international organizations claim that the DNR forces received a large amount of armaments thanks to supplies from Russia [7] . So, according to the statement of the leader of the “Essence of Time” movement, the DPR received tanks, NON and other weapons from Russia [8] [9] [10] .
