1951 NCAA Division One Men's Basketball Tournament

The 1951 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament men's basketball tournament of the first division ( 1951 ) is an Olympic system tournament in which 16 teams determined the US national basketball champion among student male basketball teams. The tournament began March 20, 1951, and the final game was held March 27 in Minneapolis ( Minnesota ). As part of the tournament, 18 matches were played, including matches for third place in each region and a match for third place in the tournament.

In the 1951 championship, the team at the University of Kentucky , led by coach Adolf Rapp , defeated Kansas State University with a score of 68:58. The most prominent player of the tournament was named Kentucky basketball player Bill Spivey .

For the first time in the history of the tournament, 16 teams took part in it, and the final game (as well as the game for third place) was not held at Madison Square Garden , but at the Williams Arena in Minneapolis. Semifinals were held in the same places as the regional games. Therefore, in the 1951 tournament there was no “Final Four” in its modern sense.
