Biography
Born in the city of Gus-Crystal of the Vladimir region.
He graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow State University (1955).
Doctor of Philology [1] [2] . Until 2010 - Senior Researcher of the Department of Modern Russian Literature and Literature of the Russian Abroad of the World Literature Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Russian Academy of Sciences) .
Since 1966 - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the magazine “ Young Guard ”. One of the first Soviet literary critics began to speak openly from the standpoint of the national interests of the Russian people . In the articles Great Quest (Young Guard, 1968, No. 3) and Inevitability (ibid., 1968, No. 9), he wrote about aristocracy and the patriarchal nature of the Russian national character, about its eternal spiritual essence.
Alexander Yanov notes: “Chalmaev completely ignored the gulf between the USSR and Tsarist Russia, which was sacred for the priests. No revolutions were historical landmarks for him.
