Luz ( Hebrew לוז - nut [1] ) - a bone in the upper part of the spine (seventh cervical vertebra ) or coccyx , tradition.
and Jewish tradition claims that this is the bone from which the body will be restored during resurrection , and that this bone does not rot [2] . In Arabic books, this bone is called ajbu adn-dhanab ( Arabic. عَجْبُ الذَّنَب ).
In the midrash there is an aggada (legend) according to which the Roman emperor Hadrian asked how the man would be reborn in the future, and Rabbi Yeshua Ben Canaaniya replied that it was “from the bone of the pockets in the ridge”. “Prove it to me,” Adrian said. Then the rabbi took a pocket, a bone from the spine, and immersed it in water, but it did not soften; put it in the fire, but it did not burn out; threw it at the millstone, but it did not crush; He laid it on the anvil and hit it with a hammer, but the anvil cracked and the hammer broke. ( Ecclesiastes Rabbah xii / Genesis Rabbah xviii [3] ).
In the Bible
The story of the pit of pits can be directly related to the meeting of man and God from the book of the prophet Ezekiel, ch. 37, alluding to the times of the Messiah and the resurrection of the dead. The field of dry bones, that is, the human component, meets the immortal Spirit of God in submission to the prophet Ezekiel.
