Biography

Eduard Bömer was born on May 24, 1827 in the town of Stettin . He studied at the University of Berlin and the University of Halle [4] .

After graduating, he lectured on theological, then at the Faculty of Philosophy in Halle, from 1866 he was an alma mater professor of Romance philology, and in 1872 E. Böhmer went on to teach at the same department at the University of Strasbourg . In 1879 he abandoned teaching and moved to Lichtental near Baden-Baden [4] .

In addition to the writings on Spinoza’s philosophy, the works of C. E. Böhmer on Romance literature, namely, the “Monarchy” of Dante, modern Provençal poetry, and many articles in the Jahrbuch der deutschen Dante-Gesellschaft he founded are well known in scientific circles. . In addition, he edited the journal Romanische Studien (1871–1885) [4] [5] .

Among his theological works were published, in particular: “ Ueber die Apokalypse des Johannes ” (Halle, 1855); Das erste Buch der Thore (1862); “ Spanish reformers of two centuries from 1520 ” (Strasbourg, 1874–1883, v. 1–2) [4] [6] .

Bremer assembled a significant collection of Rheto-Romance literature, which after his death was transferred to the Berlin Royal Library [4] [7] .

Karl Edward Böhmer died on February 5, 1906 in the city of Baden-Baden .
