Description

The length of the front wings of males is 27–29.5 mm (in females from 27 to 29 mm). The main color is brown-black, the legs are chocolate-brown. Butterflies of the genus Pedaliodes feed on plants of the Poaceae family and are found in the mountain rain forests of the Andes and paramo wet meadows at altitudes of about 2 km [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] .

Systematics

The species was first described in 1905 by the German entomologist Professor Otto Thieme (1837-1907). It is similar to Pedaliodes pammenes , but it is distinguished by its color intensity. Valid status was confirmed in 2008 during an audit conducted by the Polish lepidopterologist Tomáš Pirsch ( Tomasz Wilhelm Pyrcz ; Jagiellonian University, Kraków , Poland ), by the English entomologist Angel Viloria ( Angel L. Viloria ; Biogeography & Conservation). , The Natural History Museum , London , UK ) and their counterparts from France and Peru [8] [3] .
