The length of the front wings of males 23 - 24.5 mm (in females from 24 to 26 mm). The main color is brown-black, legs are light brown. Butterflies of the genus Pedaliodes feed on plants of the Poaceae family and are found in the mountain rain forests of the Andes and paramo wet meadows at altitudes of about 2 km [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] .
Systematics
The species was first described in 1905 by the German entomologist Professor Otto Thieme (1837-1907). Then it was considered as a subspecies of Pedaliodes ferratilis . It is similar to Pedaliodes pammenes , but differs in the structure of the genitalia. In species status, it was restored in 2008 during a revision conducted by the Polish lepidopterologist Tomasz Pirsch ( Tomasz Wilhelm Pyrcz ; Jagiellonian University, Krakow , Poland ), English entomologist Angel Viloria ( Angel L. Viloria ; Biogeography & Conservation). Laboratory, The Natural History Museum , London , UK ) and their counterparts from France and Peru [8] [3] .
