Biography
According to the design of the record company, the group was supposed to be a “pipe” rock combo in the spirit of the bands Blood, Sweat & Tears or Chicago . Instead of the band's vocalist, Ozzy Lane was invited to an octet by Colin Horton-Jennings, who began writing songs that were supposed to replace the rhythm and blues , which at that time prevailed in the band's concert sets [1] [2] .
The debut album Horizons , released in March 1970, went unnoticed at home, although it was a well-crafted and balanced material [2] and had several outstanding compositions, such as the single “Real Cool World” (released in February 1970 and attracted European audiences ) [2] or "Angelina" [1] . Allmusic reviewer in his review of the debut album separately singled out the rhythm section of Ron Prudence (drums) and Norman Watt-Roy (bass) [2] . The second single, Tell The Story, befell the fate of the first.
The Going's Easy , released in the same year, is reminiscent of the sound of Blood, Sweat & Tears, with enhanced rock energy. The song “Magic Touch Woman” was subsequently re-sung by musicians of the group The Hollies [3] The Going's Easy was the group 's last album; due to lack of interest in the homeland, the team disintegrated by mid-1971 [1] .
The Greatest Show on Earth was one of the most “hard-sounding” British bands that emerged from the post- psychedelia of the late 1960s and had a spiritual section at their disposal [2] .
