Efimov, Victor Alekseevich (scientist)

In 1946 he graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute . From 1946 to 1951 - Work at the Department of Steel Metallurgy of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute , postgraduate studies at the same department. From 1951 to 1954 - Junior Researcher, Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy . In 1954-1963 - Junior, then senior researcher at the Gas Institute. In 1963, he headed the department of alloy melting and ingot formation at the Institute of Casting Problems, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1964-1966 - Deputy Director. In the years 1966-1988. - Director of this institution. Since 1988 - Senior Researcher, Advisor to the Directorate of the Physics and Technology Institute of Metals and Alloys of the NAS of Ukraine.

In 1953 he defended his thesis. In 1961, he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1967, he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1973, he was elected an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

V. A. Efimov is associated with the development of new research directions at the Institute, including large-scale studies of the liquid state of metal and slag melts, the influence of turbulent flows of liquid steel on the crystallization of ingots and castings and the appearance of defects of various nature in them. Of considerable theoretical and practical interest are the works of V. A. Efimov, devoted to the study of the hydrodynamics of the processes of casting metal melts, the thermophysical conditions for the formation of large ingots and castings. The steel casting technologies he created were widely used at many metallurgical and engineering enterprises of the country.

He prepared 6 doctors and more than 30 candidates of science. Among his pupils there are citizens of other countries.

For a long time, V. A. Efimov was the chairman of the dissertation council for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations, the chairman, and most recently, the deputy chairman of the editorial board of the molding process journal created on his initiative, and was a member of the editorial boards of several other scientific and technical publications. His activities were never limited to the institution. Viktor Alekseevich did a lot to coordinate research on casting processes across the USSR, was the scientific director of the program of work of academic institutions of Ukraine from AvtoZIL, was a member of the Scientific Coordination Council for conducting backpressure castings together with Bulgarian experts, and was a member of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, a member of the Bureau of the All-Union Institute of Industrial and Political Sciences of Ukraine
