Biography

Born May 1, 1892 on a farm in the vicinity of the town of Butternat in northern Wisconsin in a family of German immigrants Luis Drexler and Berthe Alvina Schulz, he first learned German, then, at school, in English. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, in 1913 he graduated with a bachelor's degree. In 1914, under the leadership of Professor Lewis Ralph Jones, he defended his master's thesis on black rot of the cruciferous .

After receiving a master's degree, Drexler began preparing a Ph.D. dissertation under the direction of Roland Thaxter at Harvard University. In 1917, he defended this work, in which he examined the morphology of the genus Actinomyces . Since 1917, Drexler worked in the Ministry of Rural as an assistant in the Bureau of Phytoindustry, Soils and Agricultural Engineering. Since 1920 - as an assistant pathologist, since 1929 - as a pathologist. In 1953, he became the chief mycologist in the crop research unit of the Agricultural Research Service.

In 1966, Charles Drexler was elected a member of the American Phytopathological Society. In 1984, he was named the Outstanding Mycologist by the Society of America. He was also a member of the Botanical Society of America , was his secretary in 1940, as well as the Torri Botanical Club .

Since 1930, Charles has been married to Mary Florence Morshler, who worked at the Department of Agriculture as a botanist.

He died on February 5, 1986 .
