Herrera began his career in the club Atletico Venezuela . On January 31, 2016, in his match against Estudiantes de Merida , he made his debut in the Venezuelan Example ^[2] . On March 5, in a duel against Aragua , Yangel scored his first goal for Estudiantes de Merida ^[3] . In early 2017, Herrera moved to English Manchester City . Immediately to get playing practice, Yangel was leased to the American New York City . On March 12, in his match against DC United he made his MLS debut, replacing Andrea Pirlo in the second half ^[4] . In 2016, Herrera was in the application for participation in the America's Cup in the USA . At the tournament he was a substitute and never entered the field.

In 2017, Herrera took part in the South American Youth Championship in Ecuador . In the same year, Herrera won the silver medal at the Youth World Championships in South Korea . In the tournament, he played in matches against teams of Germany ^[19] , Vanuatu ^[20] , Mexico ^[21] , Japan ^[22] , USA ^[23] , Uruguay ^[24] and England ^[25] . In a duel against the Japanese, Yangel scored a goal.

On October 11, 2017, in the qualifying match of the 2018 World Cup against the national team of Paraguay, Herrera scored his first goal for the national team ^[26] .

In 2019, Herrera took part in the America's Cup in Brazil . At the tournament, he played in matches against the national teams of Peru ^[27] , Brazil ^[28] and Argentina ^[29] .
