Biography
Early years
Born on June 22, 1980 in Tbilisi in a Russian family. Father - Valery Kocharov, musician, leader of the Soviet rock band "Blitz" (the first concert, by coincidence, the group gave just the day Nick was born). Mother is Georgian. Despite the Armenian surname, Nika has no Armenian relatives. Nick was fond of music since childhood, despite the objections of his father, who wanted his son to become at least a doctor. Nick often attended rehearsals and took guitar lessons. Favorite bands were The Beatles and Nirvana . He founded the first group at about the age of 14 or 15, but considered music to be nothing more than a hobby for himself.
Musical career
Nika founded his current team “Young Georgian Lolitaz” in 2000, taking the collective name of various erotic sites as a group name. The group first appeared in the same year at a rock festival, surprising the audience, in addition to its performance, and its extravagant name. The group included quite experienced musicians who were widely known on the Georgian rock scene: Dimitri Oganesyan, one of the most famous drummers in Georgia; Levan Shanshiashvili, author of music and arrangement for many songs, leader of the group “Kid Jesus”; George Marr, guitarist for the bands “String”, “Zurgi” and “Black Marrows”.
Nika traveled with his family to England, where he studied, lived and gave numerous concerts. Until 2011, Nika lived in England and led his Electric Appeal group, then returned to Tbilisi and formed the Z for Zulu group, which included Gia Iashvili, Nika Davitashvili and Dimitri Oganesyan. Soon, Nick decided that the songs he wrote were not suitable for “Z for Zulu”, and collected “Young Georgian Lolitaz” again.
In 2016, Nika with his group “Young Georgian Lolitaz” was chosen as the representative of Georgia from Eurovision, which he initially regarded as a joke. However, after negotiations with the Georgian delegation, Kocharov agreed to go to the competition with the group. “Young Georgian Lolitaz” reached the final and took the 20th place there.
Personal life
Nick is divorced, he has two children: the sons of Cosmo and Damien. He knows Georgian, English and Russian languages.
