Antonietta Di Martino ( Italian: Antonietta Di Martino ; born June 1, 1978, Cava de Tirreni , Campania ) - Italian athlete , high jumper . The holder of the Italian national record in the women's high jump - 2.04 m. Multiple champion of Italy. In 2007, Di Martino became the silver medalist of the World Championships in Athletics ; in 2011, she won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships .

Biography
Di Martino took up athletics at age 12. In 1990, she first participated in children's competitions. High jump did not immediately become its main discipline, initially it specialized in javelin throwing and engaged in heptathlon . In 2000, Di Martino as part of the Italian national team participated in the European all-around championship.
In 2001, Di Martino made significant progress in the high jump, her best result rose from 1.93 m to 1.98 m. In the same year, she reached the finals of the high jump at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , where she took only 12th place, showing not the best result. In the next five years, Di Martino showed poor results and did not participate in major international competitions. In 2006, she took part in the indoor championship of the world , where she became fifth, at the European Championship in the same year she took tenth place.
A breakthrough occurred in Di Martino's sports career in 2007. In March, she became the silver medalist of the European Indoor Championships , showing a result of 1.96 m. In June, she broke the national record of Italy, which Sara Simeoni held for 29 years. The new record set by Di Martino is 2.03 m. In September, she performed with the same result at the World Championships in Osaka and won a silver medal.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Di Martino reached the final, where she took 10th place. In November 2008, she received a serious finger injury, due to which she seriously considered the possibility of ending her career. In January 2009, Di Martino changed her coach, instead of David Sessa, Massimiliano Di Matteo began working with her, for whom she soon married. In a short time, Di Martino was able to prepare for the season and gain form [1] . In February 2009, she improved her record to 2.04 m indoors. That year, due to illness, she missed the European Indoor Championships , won the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games and became the fourth at the World Championships . At the 2010 World Team Championship, Di Martino won the high jump competition, but failed to qualify at the European Championship . In the overall classification of the IAAF Diamond League in 2010, she took 2nd place, losing only to Blanca Vlašić .
In 2011, Di Martino won the gold medal at the European Indoor Championships and became the bronze medalist at the World Championships . In 2012, she became the silver medalist of the indoor indoor championship . In April 2012, Di Martino seriously injured her knee, after several months of rehabilitation she was scheduled for surgery, because of which she was forced to miss the Olympic Games in London. Having never recovered from the injury, Di Martino did not participate in sports competitions in 2012-2015, and on June 3, 2015 officially announced the end of her sports career [2] .
