Ewald, Georg

Georg Ewald studied at an agricultural school and worked on a parent's farm, in 1943 he was called up for service in the Wehrmacht . In the years 1946-1949, Ewald worked in agriculture and in 1946 joined the SSNM and SED . In 1949-1950 he held the position of burgomaster of his native city, in 1950-1953 he was an adviser on agricultural issues and a deputy of the Stralsund Crest , was a member of the district party committee. In 1954-1955, Ewald studied at the higher party school and then worked as the first secretary in the SED district committees in Bad Doberan and Rügen . In 1960-1963, Ewald was the first secretary of the SED District Committee in Neubrandenburg and a deputy of the district assembly. Ewald was a member of the SED Central Committee, was a candidate member of the Political Bureau of the SED Central Committee and a member of the Presidium of the GDR Council of Ministers . He was Chairman of the Agricultural Council of the GDR and the Council of Agricultural Production and Food under the Council of Ministers. In 1971-1973, he served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food of the GDR. In 1963-1973 he was a deputy of the People’s Chamber of the GDR .

On September 14, 1973, Ewald died in a car accident near Gotha . He was buried in the Socialist Memorial at the Central Cemetery Friedrichsfeld in Berlin Lichtenberg .
