History
The church was built in 1871, while the territory was part of the Russian Empire , by the Society for the Restoration of Christianity as part of a program to restore Christian churches and monasteries in the Caucasus. The local residents, Orthodox Georgians and Ingiloys, took an active part in building the temple. Initially, the church was consecrated in the name of St. John the Baptist , but in 1877 the church was consecrated anew in the name of St. Nina. [1]
During the collapse of the Russian Empire in the parish in Alibeyli, he served as martyr Mikhail Kuloshvili , who was highly respected by the Orthodox Georgian Ingiloi. He was murdered by Muslims on November 1, 1917 for preaching Christianity among local Muslim Georgians and refusing to convert to Islam [2] . During Soviet times, the church was closed. The building was used as a warehouse for mineral fertilizers and other agricultural raw materials [1] .
The revival of the parish of St. Nino began in 1991 [1] . Reconstruction of the church lasted from 2010 to 2011. During the renovation, the interior, facade and access roads were repaired. Financing of the works was supervised by an employee of the local Georgian folk theater, Kote Barihashvili [3] .
The renovation was completed on January 27, 2011. The parish of St. Nino in the village of Alibeyli was assigned to the parish of the Church of St. George in the city of Gakh , where priest Vasily Gogilashvili served at that time. On June 1 of the same year, the church was consecrated by the Most Reverend Melchizedek, Bishop of Hornabuji and Eretti [4] . Divine services in the church take place on the days of the commemoration of St. Nina's Equal to the Apostles - January 27 and June 1.
