Venezuelan-South Ossetian relations

Venezuelan-South Ossetian relations - bilateral diplomatic relations between Venezuela and South Ossetia . Venezuela recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on September 10, 2009. [1] Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia during his visit to Russia. Chavez also said that relations with the two republics will be established soon. [2]

Prior to this, Chavez supported Russia's decision to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: "Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We support Russia. Russia is right and defends its interests." [3]

Having succeeded Eduard Kokoity as president of South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov recalled Ambassador Nariman Kozayev on July 25, 2012. [4]
