Venezuelan-South Ossetian relations - bilateral diplomatic relations between Venezuela and South Ossetia . Venezuela recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on September 10, 2009. [1] Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia during his visit to Russia. Chavez also said that relations with the two republics will be established soon. Prior to this, Chavez supported Russia's decision to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: "Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We support Russia. Russia is right and defends its interests." [3]
Having succeeded Eduard Kokoity as president of South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov recalled Ambassador Nariman Kozayev on July 25, 2012. [4]
