The American Barbizon School consisted of a group of artists influenced by the French Barbizon School , whose style of work was distinguished by the depiction of pastoral scenes written from life [1] . The artists of the American Barbizon School focused on drawing rural landscapes , including images of peasants and farm animals. Following the French masters, the artists of the school claimed the aesthetic value of the real nature of the USA.
The first American working in the style of the Barbizon school was William Morris Hunt . He directly worked in France with the artist Jean-Francois Millet in 1851-1853. After leaving France, Hunt founded an art studio in Boston, where he worked in the style of the Barbizon school, in relation to the United States of America [2] .
The work of the Barbizon School in the United States reached its peak of popularity in the 1890s [2] .
