Biography
Eli Wong was born in Pacific Heights near San Francisco , California . Her father, Adolf Wong, is an American of Chinese origin, an anesthetist, and her mother, Tam “Tammy” Wong (née Nguyen), is a Vietnamese who moved to the USA from Hue in 1960 as a young woman. [5] [6] Eli was raised in Chinese traditions and was the youngest of four children. [1] [7]
In 2000, Wong graduated from San Francisco University High School, [8] where she was the class president. [9] At the University of California, Los Angeles , where Wong specialized in Asian-American studies, [10] she found her passion for performing as a member of the University Theater "LCC", the oldest Asian-American theater in the United States. [11] During her third year of college, Wong traveled to Hanoi . [one]
Career
After graduating from college in 2005, at the age of 23, Wong first tried herself in a stand-up at Brainwash Cafe, and then moved to New York to continue to do comedy. In New York, she performed up to nine times a night. [12]
In 2011, Variety weekly named Wong one of “10 Comics to Watch”. [3] She later got a role in the sitcom Where Are You, Chelsea? "On the NBC channel, and appeared on the Chelsea Lately comedy talk show. [13] After that, she hosted Best Week Ever on VH1 , and Hey Girl on MTV in 2013. In addition, she starred in several films: “ Especially Dangerous ” by Oliver Stone and “ Cases with Idiots ” along with Jeff Garlin and Gina Gershon . [2]
In 2014, Wong co-starred as Dr. Lina Lark in the ABC medical drama series Black Box with Kelly Riley . [14] [15]
Now Wong lives in Los Angeles and is a full-time author for the sitcom “ From the Ship ”. [16] On Mother's Day in 2016, [17] Netflix released a special stand-up issue called “Baby Cobra,” which was filmed in September 2015 when Wong was 7 months pregnant [18] at the Neptune Theater in Seattle . Personal life
In 2014, Wong married Justin Hakutu. [20] In November 2015, the couple had a daughter, Marie, named after the writer Marie Kondo , who wrote the book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. [18] In December 2017, the second child was born to the spouses. Wong and her husband live in Los Angeles. Her husband is half Filipino, half Japanese. [6] [6]
