“ Peace in the Valley ” is a song written in 1933 by Thomas E. Dorsey (who is considered the “father” of modern gospel music ) [1] . It became popular in 1939 performed by Mahalia Jackson [2] .

In 1951, performed by Red Foley and his group Sunshine Boys ( English Red Foley and the Sunshine Boys ), the song reached 7th place on the chart of the best-selling singles in the genre of country and western American magazine " Billboard " [3] . This version was one of the first gospel -style records ( singles ) sold in more than a million copies. In 2006, it was included on the National Register of Audio Records of the Library of Congress [4] (and is now in special storage there).
In 1957, the song was included in his first gospel album, Elvis Presley. The album contained 4 songs and was called, Peace in the Valley , according to the track opening it [5] . The album on “Billboard” climbed to 3rd place, and the song “(There'll Be) Peace In The Valley (For Me)” went up to 25th (mainly the Top 100 single chart) [6] .
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website calls this song “one of the greatest compositions” written by Thomas E. Dorsey during his career [2] .
