Biography
The son of historical artist Adam Pankrac Ferg. The first painting lessons received from his father. He studied the writing style of Jacques Callot and Sebastien Leclerc, whose characteristics had a great influence on his style.
Then he studied in Vienna under the guidance of landscape painter Hans Graaf and from Josef Orient, a famous landscape painter, in whose house he lived for three years, often performing figures in his landscapes. Then he improved in Leipzig under the leadership of A. Thiele, with whom he later went to Dresden .
He worked until 1718 in Braunschweig , after which he went to Vienna, lived and worked in Bamberg for several years.
Then he lived in London until the end of his life. Despite the fact that he had a lot of orders, Ferg was in constant depression. According to some sources, this was due to his own irresponsibility and reckless marriage. In addition, Ferg received a head injury when falling from the roof of the house. One night, in 1740, he was found dead in the street, not far from his home, where he lived in a state of dire need and hardship.
Among his students is Daniel Gran .
Creativity
He painted landscapes with figures in the style of Cornelis van Pulenburg , seaside views and scenes of everyday life in the style of Adrian van Ostade . His paintings, generally well composed, strong in color and very finely executed, are available in Vienna, Dresden, Kassel, Brunswick and other galleries, as well as in the British Museum .
In addition to painting, Ferg was engaged in engraving and produced, by the way, eight beautiful etchings depicting landscapes with ruins and beautiful human figures. He wrote mostly scenes from everyday life, for example, people in the markets and in the villages.
