Biography
Father is a teacher at the elementary level of a Jewish school in Odessa. The family lived in poverty, in childhood did not receive a formal education. From the age of 15 he began to publish in Odessa newspapers. In 1902, he entered the law faculty of the University of Bern as a volunteer. Returning to Russia, he passed the exam for the title of a volunteer in the Odessa Junker School and entered military service in the 6th Turkestan battalion in Samarkand [1] .
In 1904 he founded the newspaper "Samarkand". It was printed in it under the pseudonyms of Alroy, Young Theater, S. Gd. In July 1906, the publication of the newspaper was forbidden, an investigation was launched against Herzfeld’s editor-in-chief, he was taken into custody. In early 1907, the case was dismissed due to the absence of corpus delicti [1] .
Admitted to the Odessa University of Novorossiysk in the 2nd year of law school to continue their studies. In September 1908 he was elected to the Odessa Zionist Committee. On December 15, 1908, the newspaper Odessa Word began to appear, founded and edited with the participation of S. Herzfeld [2] . In May 1913 he graduated from the university, and returned to Samarkand. He has an extensive practice of law, not being a member of the bar. Admitted to the college assistant attorney attorney only on May 7, 1917.
Re-elected head of the District Zionist Committee, then - Chairman of the Jewish Committee on Elections to the City Duma of Samarkand. The regional Muslim Council planned to nominate Solomon Herzfeld as a candidate to the All-Russian Constituent Assembly from the Samarkand region [1] .
Vowel of the Samarkand City Council. In November 1917 - January 1918 a member of the Turkestan Provisional People’s Council ("Kokand Autonomy"). The Minister of Finance, whose duties included collecting donations for the organization of public administration. After the defeat of "Kokand Autonomy" on February 5-6, 1918 he was arrested and executed a week later by the Red Guards. He was buried at the Melnikovo station (now Kanibadam station [3] ) of the Central Asian Railway . On April 16, 1918, exhumation was performed, after which the body was reburied at the Samarkand Jewish cemetery [1] .
