Club career
At the age of 17, Martinez was invited to Argentina to study at the Boca Juniors Academy. He could not make his debut for the main team, since at that time he was a minor. In the same year, Roger joined the junior Argentinos Juniors , and in 2012 he moved to Racing from Avellaneda . On August 18, 2013, in the match against Tigre , he made his debut in the Argentine Example [1] . On May 18, 2014, in a duel against Godoy Cruz , Roger scored his first goal for Racing [2] . In the summer of the same year, he went to Santamarina to get a game practice on loan. On September 4, in a match against Independiente Rivadavia , Martinez made his debut in Argentine Example B [3] . After the end of the lease, he returned to Racing.
In early 2015, Martinez went on loan to Aldosivi . On February 13, in the match against Velez Sarsfield, he made his debut for the new team [4] . On March 2, in a fight against Atletico Sarmiento, Roger scored his first goal for Aldosivi [5] . In 2016, in the Libertadores Cup matches against Bolivar Bolivar [6] [7] and Colombian Deportivo Cali [8] Martinez scored three goals.
In the summer of 2016, Roger moved to the Chinese Jiangsu Suning . The amount of transfer was 8 million euros [9] . On July 20, in the match against Hebei China Fortune , he debuted in the Chinese Super League [10] . In the same fight, Martinez scored twice, scoring his first goals for the new team. In just two incomplete seasons in China, he played 30 matches in which he scored 17 goals [11] .
On January 7, 2018, Martinez moved to Spanish Villarreal for 15 million euros. He was taken as a replacement for Cedric Bakambu [11] . On January 20, in the match against the Levant , he made his debut in La Liga [12] . On May 19, in a fight against Real Madrid , Roger scored his first goal for Villarreal [13] . In the summer of 2018, Martinez moved to Mexican “ America ”. On July 23, in the match against Nekksy , he made his debut in the Mexican Example [14] . In the same fight, Roger scored his first goal for America.
International Career
On May 29, 2016, in a friendly match against the national team of Haiti, Martinez made his debut for the national team of Colombia , replacing Carlos Bakca in the second half [15] . In the same match, he scored his first goal for the national team .
In the summer of 2016, Roger took part in the America's Cup in the USA . He played in the tournament against the teams of Chile [16] , Costa Rica [17] and the USA [18] .
In the summer of 2019, Roger was invited to the national team to participate in the America's Cup , which was held in Brazil. In the first match in the group against Argentina, he scored a goal in the 71st minute, and his team eventually won 2-0. He was recognized as the best player of the match.
