Baron Huntingfield - an aristocratic title created three times in British history ( 1351 and 1362 - Peer of England , 1796 - Peer of Ireland ). Little is known about the first two creations. They probably died out or were in a state of expectation after the death of their first owners.
For the third time, the title of Baron Huntingfield from Haveningham Hall in Suffolk County in the Irish Peer system was created on July 7, 1796 for Sir Joshua Wannek, 3rd Baronet (1745–1816), Member of Parliament from Dunwich (1790–1800, 1801–1816) . His son, Joshua Wannek, 2nd Baron Huntingfield (1778–1844), also represented Dunwich in the House of Commons of Great Britain (1816–1819). His great-grandson, William Vannek, 5th Baron Huntingfield (1883-1969), who succeeded his uncle in 1915 , was a conservative member of parliament from Aya (1923-1929) and the 17th Governor of Victoria (1934-1939). As of 2013, the title holder was the grandson of the latter, Joshua Charles Vannek, 7th Baron Huntingfield (born 1954), who became his father’s successor in 1994 .
The title of Baronet Vannek of Putney in Surrey ( Baronet of Great Britain ) was created on December 14, 1751 for Joshua Vannek (1702-1777), a London merchant of Dutch origin. His eldest son, Sir Gerard Vannek, 2nd Baronet (c. 1743-1791), represented Dunwich in Parliament (1768-1790). He was succeeded by his younger brother, Sir Joshua Vannek, 3rd Baronet (1745-1816), who was elevated to the rank of peer as Baron Huntingfield in 1796 .
Aviation Commodore Sir Peter Beckford Rutgers Vannek (1922-1999), Lord Mayor of London in 1977-1978, was the second son of the fifth baron. He was a member of the European Parliament from Cleveland (1979-1984) and Cleveland and North Yorkshire (1984-1989).
The initial residence of the Wannek family was Heveningham Hall near Heveningham and Huntingfield in Suffolk County. In 1970, the 6th Baron sold his family home to the government.
