General information

Admiralty settlements were initially created by orders of Peter I , and later Catherine II . They were located in different places in Russia with the aim of developing crafts or industries in the area that would satisfy the needs of the fleet. By decrees of Peter the Great, such settlements were organized in Voronezh , Kazan and near Petersburg [1] . Catherine II created them in the Nikolaev area, on the territory of modern Ukraine , where they were located in the villages of Bogoyavlensk (now within the city of Nikolaev ), Pokrovskoye and Voskresenskoye , the village of Kalinovka , the villages of Znamenka and Bogdanovka (now the village of Ingulka ), the villages of Bereznegovatoe and the village of Visunskoye ( now the village of Visunsk ). The last two settlements were classified as admiralty settlements in 1820, replacing the villages of Znamenka and Bogdanovka, transferred to the category of military settlements [2] .

Admiralty settlements were under the jurisdiction of the Black Sea Executive Expedition, and since 1832 they were under the authority of the Administration of the Black Sea Admiralty Settlements. By the end of its history, in 1860, there were 17,050 people [2] .

In 1861, the Admiralty settlements were transformed into ordinary civilian settlements [1] .
