Description
In the work of Jonathan Swift, Gulliver is an Englishman, the son of a small landowner from Nottinghamshire , the third of five sons. For three years he studied at Cambridge , and another four from a surgeon. His life began to travel, which he made as a ship's doctor, but was not able to show his medical skills during his travels.
After three and a half years of service at sea, he settled down, married a certain Mary Burton (on the advice of friends), but then, when his financial situation deteriorated, several times he went to sea again.
Lemuel has great language skills. He does not show special adherence to medical practice, more than he, judging by the descriptions, is in the maritime business. He is a thorough person, even overly honest, not hesitating to appear before the readers in an unattractive or ridiculous light. No flaws are subject to excessively, very scrupulous in matters of honor, a patriot. Prone to friendly affection, but in love matters rather cold.
At the same time, you cannot call him a thinker, he does not shine with a sharp mind, is rather limited in his judgments and inclined to enthusiasm. He absolutely seriously says those things that the author makes fun of with his mouth.
Often the name "Gulliver" is used in a figurative sense, meaning the giant. However, Gulliver was a man of ordinary growth and a giant was only from the point of view of the Lilliputians, and then he himself turned out to be a Liliput in Brobdingneg.
