The philologist’s father is Danil Osipovich Ivlev (1905-1969), a teacher, educational functionary, participant in the Great Patriotic War, and holder of orders of the Patriotic War of both degrees and the Red Star. Brother - Duis Danilovich (1930—2013) - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, specialist in mechanics.
He graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow State University (1955).
Author of articles in the Brief Literary Encyclopedia, Latvian Soviet Encyclopedia , Literary Encyclopedic Dictionary.
From 1974 to 1992, he headed the Department of Russian Literature at the University of Latvia.
