The imperial provinces are provinces in the Roman Empire , the governors of which were appointed by the emperor. The very first imperial provinces were Lugdunskaya Gaul , Lusitania and Syria . Basically, these provinces were of strategic importance. The division into imperial and senate provinces was adopted shortly after Augustus came to power.
