Like the previous parts of the series, Test Drive 6 focuses on street racing. The game features several modes, each with its own characteristics. The player can choose from dozens of cars from world famous manufacturers, as well as tracks, each of which is based on real cities and countries. The innovation is a career mode in which you need to go through tournaments and earn money to buy and improve cars.

Unlike the previous parts of the series, the game was developed for four platforms at once: Pitbull Syndicate was responsible for the version for PlayStation , Dreamcast and personal computers running Windows , and Xantera for the version for Game Boy Color . Test Drive 6 received mixed, mostly negative reviews from the gaming press. The main object of criticism was the secondary gameplay, as well as simplified management. To the advantages of Test Drive 6, observers attributed a variety of tracks and sound.

Gameplay

Race at the Dodge Viper GTS in London . Above is the time it takes to reach the control point, in the upper right corner is the race time, in the lower right corner is the speedometer , tachometer and gear, and in the lower left corner there is a mini-map and the current place in the race

Test Drive 6 is an arcade racing game made in three-dimensional graphics .

The player is offered the opportunity to practice, in which a variety of tracks and cars are available. The tracks in the game are based on real world cities. Cars are licensed models from world famous manufacturers. In career mode, the player must go through racing competitions and earn money to buy new cars and their tuning . In races there are control points, when passing through which increases the time for passing the competition. Police patrols are moving around the streets, which start the chase if you exceed the speed. If the police car is in front of the player and the player stops, this leads to detention. If the player does not have time to pass through the control points before the end of time, then the race will have to start again. There is also the opportunity to play for the police, delaying the riders [1] .

Game development and release

Test Drive 6 is a continuation of Test Drive 5 and takes its basics: street racing with the police in real cities and countries. Nevertheless, the new part was developed immediately for four gaming platforms: the Pitbull Syndicate studio was responsible for the version on the PlayStation , Dreamcast and PC, which created the two previous games in the series, and for the simplified version for the Game Boy Color portable console with isometric graphics and the absence of control points in racing - Xantera, which later created several parts of Test Drive for this platform [2] . The developers said they wanted to use the full power of the PlayStation console in a new game, improving the graphics: Test Drive 6 implemented a game engine from the previous part of the series with more realistic lighting and pedestrians on the sidewalk [3] . The game itself was planned to be released during the winter holidays.

The release of Test Drive 6 took place in the fall of 1999 in the United States, and in the spring and summer of next year the game was released in Europe.
